Normal service is resumed...

First of all, may I say a HUGE thank you to you all for your amazing cards and gifts at Christmas. I don't think I'll have to buy chocolate or coffee for a LONG time!

I would also like to say thank you for showing compassion (one of our school values) over the past few weeks. You are truely awesome!

Most of you have already found a poem to recite of by heart, if you haven't, please make sure you find one by Monday. Here's another of my personal favourites...

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

What do you think the poem is about?

Don't forget to do your mathletics homework and make sure you read on Bug Club.

  1. That is a very funny poem Miss Welsh! My favourite lines are:'IF you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you' and 'If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same'.

  2. Tips for stop motion:

    1.Lighting is key cause you need consistent lighting for a long period of time and is a very important element and consistent lighting equals a consistent image.

    2.This is optional but you can close the blind's/curtains.

    3.You should have a pre-visualization / previs for short or in my words planning.

    4.You can use camera phones or web cams for stop motion.

  3. VIKINGS

    There are many legends about trolls in Norway. One of them talks about these mysterious creatures living on the coast in the Nordland region. They lived and worked like people. One day a horse-riding troll, called Hestmannen, saw a girl bathing in the company of seven sisters named Lekamøya. He wanted to get her, but the girls, seeing him, escaped. Seven sisters took refuge on the island of Alsten, and Lekamøya escaped further. The rider realized that he would not catch up with her and let an arrow fall towards her. Fortunately, it was noticed by one of the inhabitants of the coast and he threw his hat into the sky, which, pierced by an arrow, fell into the sea. Then dawn came and the rays of the sun turned all the trolls into stones. This is how the famous mountain chain of the Seven Sisters (De Syv Søstre) was created, reminiscent of the shape of a steed in the Hestmannen mountain on the Hestmannøy island, as well as the Lekamøya rock formation and the Torghatten "mountain hole". Well, how can you not believe in trolls?

  4. Top Tips for Stop Motion

    1.Do some planning! Make sure you know what your movie will be about.

    2.You can get quite a few really good stop motion apps. It isn't necessary to download one if you want to do stop motion, but it will make things considerably easier.

    3.Make sure you have at least 1 other person helping you because if you do it on your own, the actual playback will move around a lot.

    4.Be very VERY careful when you are changing the position of a character. If you move another character when it isn't meant to be moved, the character will move in the playback.

    5.You don't just have to move the character around! Things moving in the backround will also keep the audience's attention.

    6.Don't forget to give your movie a TITLE that will hook your audience.

    Now you can sit back and watch you movie with your family and friends! Enjoy!!! (By the way this is my homework.) :-)

  6. TIPS FOR STOP MOTION

    1.Get inspired look at what other people have done so you have an idea of what you are going to do.

    2.Make a plan It’s important to have a clear idea of what you’re doing before embarking on a time-consuming process.

    3.Shoot it… with great care.
    As you begin to take your photos, it’s very important to be cautious and precise.

    4.DON’T bump the camera.

    DON’T change your camera settings.

    DON’T alter your lighting.

    DO shoot some test frames.

    DO try to complete each scene without interruption.

    DO take more shots than you think you’ll need. You can always remove photos in post-production, but you can’t add more.

  7. MY TOP TIP'S FOR STOP MOTION

    1. NEVER bump the camera:

    Even the slightest nudge of the camera will ruin everything.

    2. NEVER accidentally change the exposure of the camera:

    This is hard not to do with a very cheap camera but other than that this should not be happening.

    3. NEVER bump the set:

    A good animator flows around the set like a gentle breeze.

    4. NEVER change the lighting:

    You just have to imagine the lighting is your enemy.

    5. ALWAYS attempt to shoot at least 1 scene in a session:

    A number of problems can be solved by following this step.

  8. The Staffordshire Hoard is the largest hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold and silver metalwork found so far. It consists of over 3,500 items, amounting to a total of 5.1 kg of gold, 1.4 kg of silver and around 3,500 pieces of garnet cloisonné jewelry.
    The hoard was most likely deposited in the 7th century, and contains artefacts probably manufactured during the 6th and 7th centuries. It was discovered in 2009 in a field near the village of Hammerwich, near Lichfield, in Staffordshire, England.
    The hoard is of considerable importance in Anglo-Saxon archaeology. The artefacts are nearly all military in character and contains no objects specific to female uses. The average quality of the workmanship is extremely high and especially remarkable in view of the large number of individual objects, such as swords and a helmet, from which the elements in the hoard came.
    1. Weaponry
    2. Crosses
    3. Gold strip
    4. Clothing items
    All of these were found in the Staffordshire Hoard.
