In the words of Abraham Lincoln, in his Gettysburg Address, democracy is “government of the people, by the people, for the people.” A democratic government contrasts with forms of government in which the power is wielded by a single individual, or a small number of privileged individuals, such as a monarchy, oligarchy, or dictatorship.
ReplyDeleteIn modern times, the concept of democracy is often misunderstood. The terms freedom and democracy are often used interchangeably, but they do not mean the same thing at all. While democracy is a set of fundamental beliefs and principles of freedom, it differentiates from freedom, in that it involves the implementation of procedures and practices to ensure freedom. Most governments in today’s world are a mixture of governmental methods.

Democracy in the United States
While most Americans consider their nation to be ruled by a democratic government, the truth is, the U.S. operates as a Constitutional Federal Republic. This means that, while Americans embrace democracy, the actual operating of the country is complex. Because individual states retain a great deal of autonomy, a written constitution is necessary to define the authority, responsibilities, and limitations of the federal government, and its relationship with the states.
In the U.S., the power remains with the people, both on the state and federal levels, as they elect representatives through the voting process. While this is commonly thought of as a true democracy, that would require the people to have direct control over legislation. Instead, U.S. citizens participate in the legislative process only through their elected representatives. This is where the term representative democracy originates.

ReplyDeleteA democracy is a regime where a rule is determined by the people. Usually ,the rule of people involves voting either directly on propositions, or indirectly through representatives. The original Greek word was derived from demo meaning"people" and cracy meaning "rule". So it means "ruled by the people" or "people rule". Essentially, democracy is a system of governance. Decisions politics and actions by the Government are made by the elected representatives of the population, or by direct propositions decided by a majority vote of the citizens.
Fantastic research Pragna.

ReplyDeleteGIRL IN PINK:
1ST STATEMENT: I disagree because the darker or lighter colour trick only works on light or the suns rays.
2ND STATEMENT: It depends. If the water amount stays the same not much would change. On the other hand, if there was more water in the bigger container more sugar would dissolve.
BOY IN GREEN:
QUESTION: I would say the answer is yes because finer things dissolve quicker than more solid things.
GIRL IN YELLOW:
STATEMENT: I think she is right because things melt quicker in hotter temperatures than in colder temperatures. For instance ice.

ReplyDeleteIf we heat up the water, more sugar will dissolve and it will dissolve quicker!
I agree with this statement because heat melts things quicker.
If we grind up the sugar cubes in to powder it will dissolve quickly!
I agree with this statement because powder dissolves quicker.
If we had a bigger jar we could dissolve more sugar!
I agree with this statement because the more water there is the more sugar dissolves.
If we changed the colour of the water more darker , more sugar will dissolve!
I disagree with this statement because the colour doesn't have an effect on how much it dissolves.
